Update: Fox Sports is the first to report that the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday have traded starting pitcher Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels for shortstop Jean Segura and two Double A pitchers.

Ron Washington was asked Friday if the Rangers need a No. 1 pitcher ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, and the manager gave an honest answer.

"We need a good pitcher. We can use a good pitcher," Washington said, without mentioning any names. "If he happens to be a No. 1 that Jon Daniels gets, if he gets it, fine. But we need a good pitcher. We need a lot of things."

"It's obvious we need to get better. Everybody does, but we'll have to wait and see."

The Rangers continued to be linked to Zack Greinke, Cliff Lee, Josh Johnson and James Shields, though the club holds Lee and Greinke in higher regard. Matt Garza no longer seems to be a viable option after the Cubs announced he won't pitch before the trade deadline after leaving his last start with a triceps injury.

Greinke's GM, Doug Melvin, has said that the right-hander will be dealt before Tuesday. Greinke is scheduled to start again Sunday, so a deal for him with any contender could be struck in the next 24 hours. The Brewers were planning to have a scout at Frisco on Friday night to watch right-hander Cody Buckel pitch.

In other news:

Mitch Moreland likely won't return from the disabled list until Monday at the earliest, and Mark Lowe might return before the club leaves for Kansas City on Thursday night. Lowe will throw at Frisco, where Moreland is rehabbing, on Sunday, and Washington wants to see him pitch twice before being activated.

Sunday's scheduled starter, Roy Oswalt, was slated to throw a bullpen session Friday as a final test for his sore lower back. He missed his start Monday and instead went to Houston for an injection of anti-inflammatory medication into his spine.
