FORT WORTH -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a car that struck and killed an Everman volunteer firefighter who was walking along an on-ramp to Martin Luther King Freeway early Sunday.

Sergio Rodriguez, 26, of Fort Worth was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled a homicide by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

The suspect's car is described as a Red Infiniti G35 or G37 two-door coupe with temporary tags.

Police said the car should have front-end damage, including a large portion of its left side A-pillar missing. The A-pillar is the front vertical column that holds the windshield and side-view mirror of the passenger compartment.

The incident occurred at about 3:35 a.m. Sunday on the South Riverside Drive on-ramp to the Martin Luther King Freeway.

Rodriguez was walking along the shoulder of the on-ramp when he was hit. Police did not release any information on what the volunteer firefighter was doing in the area.

A witness attempted to pursue the fleeing car but lost sight of it within a few minutes, police said.

Rodriguez had been with the Everman department for more than two years.

He was a 2004 graduate of Polytechnic High School and had attended the Tarrant County College Fire Academy at the Northwest Campus, according to his Facebook page.

Anyone with information about the car or its driver is asked to call Detective C. Gorrie at 817-392-4889 or the Police Department's non-emergency number at 817-335-4222.

Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477) or online at www.469tips.com.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
