For most Texans, July is a strange time to be thinking about going to the polls to vote.

But this has been a strange year in politics for Texas. Lawsuits over the state's redistricting plan delayed primary balloting until May 29. Realigned federal and state legislative maps include a new congressional district that attracted a long list of Democratic hopefuls, resulting in a runoff between the last two standing.

Early voting begins today and continues through Friday for the July 31 runoff elections involving a number of North Texas races left unresolved after the May 29 primaries.

The Star-Telegram Editorial Board makes the following recommendations in selected primary runoffs.

U.S. Senate

Democrat: Paul Sadler

Republican: David Dewhurst

U.S. House District 25

Republican: Roger Williams

U.S. House District 33

Democrat: Marc Veasey

Texas Railroad Commission

Republican: Barry Smitherman

Republican: Warren Chisum

Texas Supreme Court, Place 4

Republican: David Medina

Texas House, District 91

Republican: Ken Sapp

Texas House District 95

Democrat: Nicole Collier

Judge, 153rd District Court

Republican: Susan McCoy
