Spirit Airlines announced Monday that it is adding service to six more cities out of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport later this year, bringing its total destinations to 26 by mid-2013.
The low-fare carrier, which is based in Florida near its Fort Lauderdale hub, said it will add flights to Fort Myers, Fla., Minneapolis-St. Paul, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh's Latrobe airport and Los Cabos, Mexico. The Los Cabos flight requires government approval.Just two weeks ago, Spirit announced that it would add five cities to its DFW service. The carrier has been flying out of DFW for a little more than a year."Now travelers from throughout the Metroplex have easy access to Spirit's ultralow fares to 26 nonstop destinations from DFW," said Barry Biffle, Spirit's chief marketing officer.Spirit is the second-largest carrier at DFW Airport in terms of destinations served, but not in terms of total capacity, since the airline often operates just one or two flights a day to any city. On July 2, Spirit said it would launch service from DFW to Baltimore and Houston in September, and Oakland and Los Angeles in April. The new seasonal service to Fort Myers will be three times a week between Nov. 8 and April 24. Service to New Orleans will begin with a daily flight Jan. 24 and add a second daily flight June 13.Starting April 26, Spirit will offer flights four times a week to Minneapolis-St. Paul and Philadelphia, increasing to daily service June 13. Flights three times a week between DFW and Pittsburgh will begin June 14.Andrea Ahles, 817-390-7631Twitter: @Sky_Talk
