ARLINGTON -- The Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A-5A All-Star softball game at Workman Complex was called in the bottom of the third inning due to heavy thunderstorms that rolled in Tuesday night.
The Red team held a 1-0 lead over the Blue team at that point, led by Plano East pitcher Holly Kern. The Texas signee struck out five, walked two and gave up one hit in 2 1/3 innings.
Austin Bowie's Maddie Lionberger scored the lone run of the night on a two-out double by Frisco Wakeland's Darian Dunn in the top of the first.
"Anytime I'm associated with an all-star game it seems like it rains," said Red team coach Mark Larriba, of Flower Mound. "That's what happened in the DFW All-Star game, too. That game was the first week after school was out and it rained out for two days and we had to postpone it for five days."
Tuesday night's game will not be made up due to difficult travel arrangements for the players who came from all over the state.
