A 14-year-old Alvord boy struck and killed by a train this weekend was apparently wearing headphones and did not hear the train approaching, authorities say.
Marcus Silletti died about 6 p.m. Saturday near the crossing at O'Neill Street, Wise County Sheriff David Walker said.Witnesses told investigators they saw the teen walking along the tracks while they waited at the lowered crossing guard, he said. The teen did not respond or look back as the train approached him from behind. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train tried to brake before striking the teen, he said.Walker said he did not know how fast the train was going.Wise County deputies and railroad police are still investigating but believe it was an accident, Walker said."We think he had his headphones on listening to music and just never heard the train coming," he said. "Right now, it appears to be a tragic, tragic accident."A woman walking in the same area was struck and killed by a train last July, Walker said. Police occasionally get reports of people walking on the tracks and do their best to get them off.Silletti would have been a student at Alvord High School this fall, Walker said.Alex Branch, 817-390-7689Twitter: @albranch1Have more to add?
