ARLINGTON -- Two of the three human cases of the West Nile virus in Tarrant County have been confirmed in patients who live in Arlington, according to a news release from the city of Arlington.

Arlington officials began notifying schools, daycares, nursing homes, golf courses and other facilities near the affected areas, the release said.

On Friday, door hangers will be distributed reminding residents of the best way to protect against the virus.

The best way to limit the spread of the virus is to keep mosquitoes from breeding by emptying pools of water where they lay their eggs, an Arlington health official said. Placing good screens on windows and doors provides added protection, the official said.

Arlington residents were also cautioned to stay inside during dusk and dawn hours when mosquitoes are most active, dress in long sleeves and pants when outside and use insect repellant formulated with DEET.
