I would like to begin the rational discussion about the legality and morality of capital punishment suggested by Bob Ray Sanders. (See: Issues of justice -- and injustice," Sunday) The problem, however, is that the most important and influential voices in the debate who could add the greatest insight are forever silenced: victims of the murderers Sanders so dutifully defends. Perhaps the voice of the broken hearts of surviving loved ones can be lent in absentia?

In addition, I find it ironic that he also champions having fans bought for prisoners so that they can remain cool during their incarceration. That issue is not a problem for murder victims, who remain in a cool grave for eternity.
