A middle school principal in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district was booked into the Denton County Jail on Monday in a case involving a video recorded in a high school girls' locker room last winter.
A Denton County grand jury returned the two-count indictment on Thursday against Wendee Long, a prosecutor said Tuesday. One felony count accuses Long of improper photography or visual recording. The sentence range is 180 days to two years in a state jail and fines up to $10,000, according to Jaime Beck, first assistant district attorney. The second count accuses Long of unlawful interception, use or disclosure of wire, oral or electronic communications -- what's commonly known as wiretapping, Beck said. The charge is second-degree felony with a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.Jail records show that Long posted $25,000 bail and was released.Long, a former Argyle school trustee, and her daughter, Caydan, 18, are at the center of a case involving a video that authorities have said was recorded Feb. 7 in a girls locker room at halftime in a basketball game between Argyle and Sanger high schools. In June, Beck told the Star-Telegram that Caydan Long left the recording device in the locker room. Beck said there was evidence that Long came up with the plan and encouraged her daughter to make the video. The video was mailed to the Argyle school board in March. District officials turned it over to police, who investigated. The video contained nothing inappropriate involving the girls. Sanger Police Chief Curtis Amyx has said the intent appeared to be to try to get something on Argyle girls basketball coach Skip Townsend. The grand jury did not indict Caydan Long. The case should be taken as a warning, Beck said."If this had happened at the mall or the town square, we wouldn't be in this situation," Beck said. But "this occurred in a private girls locker room."Long told her supervisors last week about the Denton County case, and she was put on administrative leave. Administrators will look into the matter after offices reopen Monday, Kristin Courtney, an Eagle Mountain-Saginaw district spokeswoman, said.Diane Smith, 817-390-7675Twitter: @dianestar
