FORT WORTH -- A 17-year-old woman was found shot to death near the back door of a home in the Tanglewood neighborhood Thursday evening, Fort Worth police said.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Claudia Hidic of Fort Worth. She she died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Hidic had just completed her junior year at Trinity High School in Euless, according to her older sister, Samira Hidic.

"We don't really know what happened," said Samira Hidic. "She was just big-hearted and beautiful. We're grieving."

Fort Worth police officers responded to the home in the 3000 block of West Overton Park Drive at about 6:15 p.m. after a man who lived at the home found the woman and called 911, police said. Police found the female face down near the back door, which appeared to have been kicked in.

The man told police he did not know the teen.

The home is at the corner of Overton Park and Glenwood Drive, across the street from Tanglewood Elementary School.

At 10 a.m. Friday, a crime scene van remained parked behind the house, which is divided into three separate residences. All three homes share a driveway.

A neighbor, who declined to give his name, said the death surprised him in part because there "was a constant flow of people in and out" of the area behind the homes Thursday. Workers repairing an air-conditioning unit came and went from the driveway all morning and into the afternoon, he said.

The neighbor described the man who lived in the home where the body was found as "a really good guy." He also added that he was grateful that the body was not found while school was in session across the street at Tanglewood Elementary.

"I have children and it's very disconcerting that this could happen so close by," he said.

As police investigated, neighbors jogging and walking their dogs stopped to ask media gathered at the scene for information about what happened.

Laurin Baum, who lives behind the home where the body was found, said violent crime in the neighborhood is rare.

"You don't see this often here," Baum said.
