What started as a routine Saturday morning bicycle ride for Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price ended with a broken collar bone, a concussion and some scrapes.

Despite her injuries, Price is in good spirits and still has a sense of humor, said Jason Lamers, chief of staff for Price and the City Council.

"She said, 'In 25 years of riding, I guess you have to break a bone sometime,' " Lamers said.

Price appeared upbeat in an announcement on Facebook and Twitter posted Saturday afternoon.

"I took a spill on the bike this morning, but I'm okay aside from some some scrapes, a concussion and a broken collar bone. Ouch!" Price wrote. "Fortunately, my helmet stayed on. It could've been worse. Please be sure to strap on that helmet before you hop on your bike!”

Lamers said the spill occurred as Price was riding near Interstate 30 and Beach Street on the Trinity Trails.

"She hit a rut in the gravel and was thrown from the bike," Lamers said.

Lamers said Price's shoulder was hurting pretty bad after the fall so she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Price will be re-evaluated next week and, at that time, doctors expect to learn the extent of the break, Lamers said.

"She will be back to riding as soon as she can," he said.

Price canceled a speaking engagement Saturday night at the AIDS Outreach Center Gala, but plans to handle her schedule next week one day at a time, Lamers said.

"We are looking at her appointments Monday, but we just don't know yet," he said.

Price hosts weekly Wednesday night mayor's rides along the Trinity Trails, and Lamers said staff members will continue leading them while she heals.

"If I know anything about Betsy, she would want us to continue those rides," he said. "She will be there in spirit and be back in the saddle with us as soon as she can."

Indeed, a few hours after the accident, Price had this to add on Facebook: "Thanks everyone for the get well wishes. I will be back on my bike soon."
