FORT WORTH -- Top Texas Republicans have announced that former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum will be a featured speaker at the 2012 Texas GOP convention Gala Banquet in Fort Worth.
The banquet will be June 8 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201 Houston St."I am very pleased that we have been able to confirm Sen. Santorum's appearance at our convention gala," said Texas Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri. "His campaign was very active in Texas during the primary season, and I am excited to offer our convention attendees the opportunity to hear from a major national figure in our party."Before he suspended his campaign April 10, the former senator from Pennsylvania made headway in Texas, where his rallies drew thousands of supporters and pundits believed he could win the primary.As early as February, he told a North Texas crowd that this state would move him closer to the White House."We're going to have a big win in Texas when the day comes," Santorum told supporters in Plano several months ago. "Texas is the conservative epicenter of this country. You folks lead the way."A March poll showed that Santorum would have bested Romney in Texas, 45 to 43 percent, in a one-on-one matchup. But with a field of four candidates, Romney claimed the lead in Texas, according to a Rasmussen poll that surveyed 750 likely Republican voters.Anna M.
