The Cowboys weren’t going to let their top target leave town without a deal. It might have taken longer than they thought, but everyone is happy today.

The Cowboys have signed Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million deal, according to sources.

The Cowboys rolled out the red carpet for the former Kansas City Chief on Tuesday night at Cowboys Stadium. They had to show him the money, though, before they could call him a Cowboy.

Carr got a better contract than any of the other three top cornerbacks on the market. Cortland Finnegan left the Titans for the Rams’ offer of a five-year, $50 million contract; Carlos Rogers stayed in San Francisco for a four-year, $31.3 million deal; and Eric Wright departed Cleveland for Tampa Bay and a five-year, $37.5 million contract.

Carr, who turns 26 in May, was the 30th-rated corner last season, according to Pro Football Focus. He was targeted 79 times, gave up 39 catches for 511 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterbacks had a 49.4 completion percentage against him and a 61.7 passer rating. He intercepted four passes and defensed seven.
