Getting to know
RHP Greg ReynoldsSometimes a change of scenery is necessary, especially for players who didn't live up to their potential. The Texas Rangers are hoping right-hander Greg Reynolds can flourish in a new organization, and show the reasons why he was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the second overall pick in the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Rangers acquired Reynolds this winter in exchange for Chad Tracy, a first baseman who spent last season with Triple A Round Rock. Reynolds reached the big leagues in 2008, going 2-8 with an 8.13 ERA in 14 games, including 13 starts. He didn't make it back until last season, when he went 3-0 with a 6.19 ERA in 13 games, three starts, with the Rockies. What's it been like switching organizations? I expected it to be a little different. This clubhouse seems to get along real well, that's been pretty obvious right away, so I'm just trying to get comfortable. I just want to stay healthy and have a good camp, and the rest will take care of itself. You were a reliever some last year, but do you prefer starting? I've been a starter for most of my career with a few exceptions, so it's something I prefer. Was there added pressure early in your career because you were the second overall pick? Initially I felt some pressure, but I used that to work hard and live up to expectations. The main thing is I hold myself to very high standards, so that's what keeps me going. I wish I could've done better for the Rockies organization, but some unlucky things happened there and everybody has their own road. I hope this is another step along the way, and hopefully I can prove myself. Is it nice to have a fresh start? Absolutely. Just having new eyes watching you is great, too. There's no preconceived notions on who you are.Speaking of eyes on you, what's it like pitching for an organization with Nolan Ryan and [consultant] Greg Maddux around? It'll be fun just to talk to them, more about the mental side of the game. Obviously it's a great resource to have, but at the end of the day it's on you to get the job done.Universal languageCatcher Yorvit Torrealba said the communication between him and Yu Darvish was good on Saturday.
