DFW Airport is working to reduce its impact on the environment with energy-saving and recycling programs. The full terminal redevelopment project is to be completed in 2017. So far, DFW:
has created 60,000 architectural and construction documents electronically to save paper.
has diverted about 48 percent of the project's waste, or about 970 tons, from landfills.

DFW AIRPORT -- In the past nine months, construction workers have stripped one-third of Terminal A down to its concrete skeleton.
Gone are the escalators and baggage carousel on the upper level near Gate A12. The ceiling tiles by Gates A9 through A19 have been removed.
And soon the parking garage outside those gates will be demolished to make way for a $175 million, 8,000-space garage.
"We are pretty much on budget," airport CEO Jeff Fegan said about the $1.9 billion project. "When we're all finished, this airport will have nothing but new facilities. We'll have seven runways, and we'll have one of the lowest-cost structures in the country for any large hub airport."
On Wednesday, airport executives showed off the gutted interior of the part of Terminal A that closed in May and is expected to reopen in November. Some 400 workers are changing out wiring, installing new heating and chilling units, and preparing the terminal for a new terrazzo floor. The face-lift will also include new restrooms and concession areas.
The airport also announced a new partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency to continue its environmental efforts on the project. The airport estimates that it will recycle over 1,500 tons of materials by the time Terminal A is completed in 2014, and additional material will be recycled from Terminals B, C, and E.
Each terminal will take about three years to complete and will be renovated in phases so airlines can continue to operate during the seven-year project.
