Trimble Tech boys edge Arlington Heights 71-68

By: By Matthew Reagan

Tuesday's matchup between Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Trimble Tech wasn't for the District 6-4A championship, but it sure felt like it.

In one of the most heated and physical games of the season, Tech outscored Heights 21 to 13 in the fourth quarter, hit 11 of 14 free throws down the stretch and wound up on the receiving end of a favorable call with seconds remaining to down Heights 71-68 at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

Heights' Travis Williams hit a layup with 3.4 seconds remaining to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 70-68 before he was whistled for a foul on what looked to be a clean steal on Tech's ensuing inbound.

Tech guard and TCU signee Charles Hill hit one of two free throws and Marshall Calvin's heave fell short as time expired to give Tech the victory.

While it locked up the title on Friday, Tech (24-4, 18-0) was presented with the district championship trophy after the game.

"Anytime these two teams hook up and lock horns it is going to be intense," Tech coach Wendell Ivory said.

"This was a good playoff preview because more than likely, the way things are looking, we may see that team again."

Coming off the bench, Yellow Jackets post A'Shawn Robinson took over for Heights in the second half. Robinson, who finished with 10 rebounds and three steals, scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the final two quarters.

Damontre McFarland had 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks and Harrison Wagner had 13 points in the loss.

Heights (20-9, 15-3) faces the third seed from District 5-4A in bi-district next week while Tech takes on the fourth seed.
