Clinging to a two-point halftime lead, Granbury changed tactics and romped to a 52-32 victory against Waco in a Class 4A bi-district game Tuesday at Hill College in Hillsboro.

Junior post Lilley VanderZee led the Pirates (27-8) with 26 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots. Granbury also got 14 points -- including four 3-pointers -- from junior guard Ashley Bonugli. She also added 10 rebounds.

Up 24-22 at intermission, Granbury switched to a zone defense with man-to-man coverage on the player with the ball.

"They were penetrating, pulling up to shoot jumpers and scoring," Granbury coach Leta Andrews said.

"We adjusted our defense and it certainly paid off. It broke down their rhythm."

Granbury meets Fort Worth Western Hills in the area round at 6 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

Summit meets Fort Worth Trimble Tech at Richland High School on Friday, with the time to be determined.
