FORT WORTH -- North Texans finally got a taste of winter Sunday as sleet and snow moved in.
At 9 p.m., light snow was reported at recording stations in much of North Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington.Accumulations could be up to an inch in some Tarrant County areas."The good news is that temperatures will stay above freezing" in Tarrant, said meteorologist Ted Ryan of the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth. Temperatures were hovering in the mid-30s at 9 p.m.Ryan said driving conditions could get risky in areas north and west of Tarrant County, where temperatures could drop below freezing.At 7 p.m., a winter weather advisory was issued for counties north and west of Tarrant. The advisory runs through 9 a.m. Some snow accumulations snow are possible on bridges and overpasses.In Dallas-Fort Worth, the snow should turn to sleet mixed with rain around midnight.Motorists will have to deal with rain Monday morning, but temperatures in the metro area will stay above freezing then, too. There's a 60 percent chance of rain for Monday.The arctic cold starts to leave North Texas on Monday as temperatures climb into the lower 50s.Forecasters say it will be sunny with high temperatures in the lower 60s on Tuesday. The rain chances come back that night and early Wednesday.Ryan said for the rest of the week North Texans won't have to deal with the arctic temperatures and cold winds.The high could be in the lower 70s on Wednesday.Domingo Ramirez Jr., 817-390-7763; Twitter: @stcrime
