Wyatt comes from behind to top Southwest in OT

Fort Worth Wyatt junior guard Andrew Nunley had no intentions of letting his team finish the way it started on Friday.
Nunley grabbed two key rebounds, made two critical steals and scored 13 points in the final minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Chaparrals overcome a double-digit fourth quarter deficit and down Fort Worth Southwest 92-87 at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.
The victory gave Wyatt (18-4, 12-5) sole possession of third place in District 6-4A with just one regular-season game remaining.
"I would do anything it takes for us to win," Nunley said. "If it takes me scoring, making a big pass or playing tough defense, I'll do whatever it takes."
Nunley and Jerome Green, who hit six of eight free-throw attempts down the stretch, led the late charge for Wyatt, which trailed 45-35 at halftime.
Down 75-73 with just over a minute to go in regulation, Nunley, who led the Chaparrals with 23 points, made a key free throw, followed that with a layup to tie the game and fought his way into the lane to grab a vital rebound with 30 seconds remaining.
"He had some turnover issues early in the year, but he's starting to play a little more patient," Wyatt coach Rodney McFadden said.
"He was determined and pumping these guys up on the sideline telling them, 'We're still in this, we're still in this.' "
Southwest junior guard Robbie Rhodes kept the Raiders in the game in overtime, accounting for five of his team's nine points in the extra period, but fouled out with a minute remaining.
Byron Smith added 19 for Wyatt and Trey Colbert paced Southwest with 22.
Wyatt faces Western Hills on Tuesday with a chance to lock up the No. 3 playoff seed. Western Hills topped the Chaparrals by one point earlier in the season.
Southwest (17-10, 11-6) takes on South Hills in its final regular-season game and will at the least hold the No. 4 seed.
Trimble Tech has secured the No.1 seed with Arlington Heights at No. 2.
