Denton police are advising anyone who might have had contact with a rabid kitten to contact state health officials.

A case of rabies was recently confirmed in a tabby domestic shorthair kitten found in the 1900 block of Azalea Street after it was taken to a local veternarian for testing, Denton police said.

Anyone who had contact with kitten between Jan. 23 and Feb. 4 should call the Texas Department of State Health Services at 817-264-4922.

In a news release, the police department's animal services division reminded residents to keep their pets up to date on their rabies vaccines and avoid all stray animals. If someone sees an animal that appears ill or displays odd behavior, call animal services at 817-349-7594.
