A frigid cold front that was moving through Texas on Friday should end Dallas-Fort Worth's stretch of mild weather, following Punxsutawney Phil's Feb. 2 prediction of six more weeks of winter.Rain showers that brought less than a quarter of an inch to most parts of North Texas on Friday morning gave way to sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s.But the cold air mass will soon settle in, dropping overnight lows into the mid-20s, said Bill Bunting, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth.Saturday will see high temperatures around 40 and northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph, according to the weather service forecast. A wind chill in the lower to mid teens could make conditions a little uncomfortable."It will be some of the chilliest air we have seen in a while," Bunting said. "We've been a little spoiled by our unusually warm weather."Highs on Sunday should reach the mid-40s, and there is also slight chance of wintry mix late Sunday or early Monday as showers and thunderstorms are expected to arrive, he said.Areas to the west or northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth have the best chances of freezing precipitation but, if it's cold enough, it could also fall in Tarrant County, he said."That's something we'll be watching over the weekend," Bunting said. "It all depends on how fast our temperatures moderate."Alex Branch, 817-390-7689Twitter: @albranch1Have more to add? News tip? Tell us
