FORT WORTH -- An Arlington man was convicted of murder Thursday in the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend.

A Tarrant County jury deliberated two days before convicting Henry Hernandez, 27, in Criminal District Court No. 1.

Hernandez killed Said Mohamed, 38, during a fight in February 2011 at the girlfriend's apartment in the 6000 block of Altersgate Lane in Arlington, prosecutors said.

Speed linked to fatal wreck on freeway

FORT WORTH -- The driver killed Wednesday afternoon on southbound Interstate 35W, tying up the freeway late into the night, had attempted to cross two lanes of traffic at high speed before losing control of his car and colliding head-on with an 18-wheeler, police said Thursday.

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office had not released the driver's name by late Thursday.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of the South Freeway. According to police, the driver entered the freeway on the Felix Street ramp and tried to cross two lanes but lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin. The vehicle ended up facing north and hit the 18-wheeler, police said.

The truck driver had minor injuries, police said. -- Domingo Ramirez Jr.

Medical examiner IDs man killed in crash

FORT WORTH -- A motorist killed early Saturday in far west Fort Worth was identified as Kenneth Walker of Fort Worth, the Tarrant County medical examiner reported Thursday.

Walker, 23, who was thrown from his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were dispatched to Camp Bowie West and Diamond Bar Trail at 7:27 a.m. Saturday. Officer Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman, said an early investigation showed that Walker's vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail and landed in an embankment.

A passenger was injured, but the condition of that person was not available Thursday.

Reward offered for capture of stickup man

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- A $5,000 reward has been offered by GameStop for the arrest and indictment of a man who has robbed stores three times since December.

Authorities believe the same man has robbed GameStops in Watauga, Roanoke and North Richland Hills.

The first holdup was Dec. 4 in Watauga, followed by a Dec. 20 robbery in Roanoke and on Jan. 27 in North Richland Hills.

In the North Richland Hills case, the robber posed as a customer at the store in the 8500 block of Davis Boulevard, asking about several video games for sale.

But he pulled out a silver semiautomatic handgun and demanded money. He fled with cash and store merchandise.

The robber was described as African-American, in his mid-20s with facial hair and wearing a black cap with the letters "NY."

Anyone with information is asked to contact local law enforcement agencies.

No girls allowed to see movie about pilots

DALLAS -- The Dallas school district treated about 5,700 fifth-grade boys -- but no girls -- to a screening of Red Tails, a new movie about African-American fighter pilots in World War II.

The Dallas Morning News reported that buses began unloading Dallas schoolchildren Thursday morning at a theater in Mesquite.

In an e-mail to the newspaper, school district spokesman Jon Dahlander said:

"There is only so much available space at the movie theater, so the decision was made for boys to attend the movie. Girls stayed at school, but principals were given the option to show them Akeelah and the Bee."

Akeelah and the Bee tells of an 11-year-old girl from the South Central section of Los Angeles who participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
