A Bedford boy reported missing walked to a restaurant near North East Mall in Hurst Wednesday morning and was headed back home when authorities found him, police said.

Robert Reynolds, 12, left on his own from his Bedford home in the 1700 block of Haven Drive about 7 a.m., after walking outside to place some items in the family's vehicle.

"He went out to put some equipment in the vehicle to prepare to go to school," Bedford police Lt. Kirk Roberts said. "He never came back inside."

Roberts said later: "He walked to McDonald's in Hurst just south of the mall. He then walked around the mall."

Reynolds told authorities he was walking back home - about four miles - when he was seen on a street near the mall.

He was located about 11 a.m. at Bedford-Euless Road and Desiree Lane, and was reunited with his family at the Bedford police station.

No charges are expected to be filed.
