Country music singer Randy Travis was arrested early Monday on suspicion of public intoxication outside a Sanger church in Denton County, authorities say.

Just after midnight, a Sanger police officer investigating a suspicious vehicle at First Baptist Church on South 5th Street reportedly found Travis with an open bottle of wine and smelling like alcohol, said Tom Reedy, spokesman for the Denton County Sheriff's Department.

Travis was booked into Denton County Jail about 1:30 a.m., he said. He was released several hours later with a Class C misdemeanor citation.

Travis owns property in nearby Tioga.

In September, Travis collapsed during a performance of Three Wooden Crosses at the Renaissance Worthington hotel in downtown Fort Worth. Several doctors attending the annual Huguley Memorial Medical Center's benefit event rushed to his aid.

Travis' tour manager later told DFW.com that Travis had a bad reaction to some allergy medicine he had taken earlier in the day.
