FORT WORTH -- A Dallas man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to causing a wreck that killed a Fort Worth teenager and injured a Springtown woman.
In an agreement with prosecutors, Manuel Valles, 22, pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.Daniel Heinrich, 18, was killed and Debra Barber, 59, was injured in the collision in the 2200 block of Jacksboro Highway on Sept. 26, 2010.Heinrich's father, William Heinrich, was in court Friday to give a message to Valles, Assistant District Attorney Alicia Cooper said.William Heinrich said his son was driving to downtown Fort Worth to spread the word about his faith when he was struck by Valles."He was very energized about telling people about Jesus," Heinrich said in a statement that was translated into Spanish for Valles."We take great encouragement in knowing that Daniel was a strong Christian," Heinrich said."We know that one day that we will get to see him again and enjoy life eternal with our lord in Heaven."Valles' attorney of record, Eloy Sepulveda, could not be reached for comment.
