Texas Tech 2012 signing class

A

2011 record: 5-7

Players signed: 26

Signees from Texas: 15

Offense: The Red Raiders filled a need with four receivers, including Javon Bell, who is expected to contribute as a freshman, and Casey Gladney, from South Carolina. Rashad Fortenberry is one of three offensive linemen. The 6-foot-4, 271-pounder from Mississippi is expected to compete for a starting spot this fall.

Defense: Coach Tommy Tuberville said Michael Starts, a highly recruited lineman from Waco La Vega, will play end. Starts leads a class of five linemen that Tech coaches hope give the Red Raiders immediate quality depth.

Immediate impact: Receiver Javon Bell, from Jacksonville, Fla., has the size and speed to be a playmaker as a freshman.

Area ties: Micah Awe, Mansfield Summit
