Texas 2012 recruiting class

A

2011 record: 8-5

Players signed: 28

Signees from Texas: 24

Offense: A unit in need of playmakers added several choices, led by record-setting RB Johnathan Gray. QB Connor Brewer, a four-star signee, will be in spring drills and might play next fall. The class has several WR options, including four-star signee Cayleb Jones. Speedy Daje Johnson, a late switch from TCU, and Kendall Sanders could be difference-makers at WR/KR. The line received ample attention, including a possible starter from junior college (LT Donald Hawkins). K Nick Jordan could start.

Defense: An already strong group improved with three late additions who had been committed elsewhere: LB Dalton Santos (Tennessee) and ends Bryce Cottrell (Oregon) and Shiro Davis (LSU). Big scores came at tackle, a significant need position, with five-star signee Malcom Brown and JC transfer Brandon Moore. LB was replenished nicely with Santos, Timothy Cole and Peter Jinkens. End Hassan Ridgeway is a proven pass rusher and several new DBs, including Kevin Vaccaro (Kenny's brother) and Adrian Colbert (a projected safety), could emerge quickly.

Immediate impact: RB Johnathan Gray, a unique blend of speed and power who led Aledo to three state titles.

Area ties: Gray; DE Hassan Ridgeway, Mansfield
