1 million a magic number at Fort Worth Stock Show
The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo's chances of reaching a record 1 million guests looks, in a word, sunny.
Mild, even occasionally warm weather had drawn 867,200 people as of Sunday, meaning the event need average 22,133 people a day before it concludes Saturday.
And while no Stock Show official wants to curse the outlook with overconfidence, the 2011 show averaged 26,000 a day during the final week, despite the infamous ice storm that wreaked havoc on North Texas.
Last year's total attendance reached 930,300.
"Attendance is very much weather driven, and the weather has been very good," said Shanna Weaver, spokeswoman for the Stock Show.
The rest of the week looks nice, too. High temperatures range from the mid-70s to the mid-60s. There is a small chance of showers on Friday, and highs Saturday should fall in the 50s but the skies are forecast as sunny.
More than 153,000 attended the Stock Show Saturday.
The closest the event has come to hitting 1 million total attendance was 955,800 in 2006, Weaver said.
"We'll just say it's looking good," she said.
