FORT WORTH -- A woman shot and wounded an intruder Friday after coming back from picking up her son at school.

The woman returned to her home in the 6400 block of Peggy Drive shortly before noon and discovered the man in her home and then confronted him, said Sgt. Pedro Criado, police spokesman.

The woman fired several gunshots and then she and her 16-year-old son chased the suspect out of the house, Criado said. The youth said the only thing he heard the intruder say while he was inside the house was, "Please don’t kill me."

The suspect was hit by gunfire at least once in the leg, Criado said.

The suspect has been taken to the hospital and will be arrested after he is stabilized by medical personnel, Criado said.

The suspect will likely face a burglary of a habitation charge and is reported to be wanted on at least one outstanding warrant, according to police.

The woman, who declined to be identified and interviewed because she had been traumatized by the day's events, said she was only trying to protect her home.
