Weatherford ISD Board members each received limited edition pens from the district in honor of January's School Board Recognition Month at the beginning of it's last meeting.
Dr. Jeffrey Hanks, Superintendent of Schools, presented each board member with a Kangaroo Stadium Pecan Pen from Texas Pens on Jan. 19. The pens were crafted by Weatherford Ninth Grade Center teacher and coach Mason Kuettel and contain wood from a pecan tree that he extracted during the Kangaroo Stadium renovation."In 2008, Weatherford ISD renovated Kangaroo Stadium and several pecan trees had to be removed," Kuettel said. "During this removal process, I was able to salvage one log from the 'to be mulched' pile."From that log, Kuettel said he was able to harvest enough wood to make the commemorative pens. The Weatherford ISD Board is part of 7,000 locally-elected school board members across the state serving their communities and, in 2009, was named Texas Outstanding School Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators. In other action, Weatherford ISD Board members also approved the District's 2012-13 school year calendar which will continue to have two separate grading cycles for both elementary and secondary campuses."I would like to thank the members of the Weatherford ISD Calendar Committee for creating this calendar draft," Board President Charlie Martinez said. "Many of their considerations were based on feedback they received from student, parent, staff, and community survey results."A lot of thought was placed into this calendar," Martinez added, "and [Executive Director of Student Services] Dr. Nita Ellis did an outstanding job of organizing the entire process."Have more to add?
