Parker County Sheriff's deputies apprehended a Weatherford man after witnesses reported he struck a county vehicle and fled the scene.

Sheriff's deputies and Weatherford Police officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run accident around 4:30 p.m., Wed., Jan. 25, in the 1500 block of Santa Fe Drive.

A deputy driving the marked county vehicle, and witnesses reported a white Ford Ranger, carrying two males, struck the county vehicle near the Parker County Courthouse Annex building.

Witnesses said the suspect vehicle was seen fleeing southbound on Santa Fe Drive, and struck a street sign and a signal pole, knocking it down and damaging a crossing signal light at the East Park Drive intersection.

The driver was then seen abandoning the vehicle in a local business parking lot, and fleeing on foot along with a male passenger.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and apprehended the passenger and the suspect, identified as Bryan Allen Sowards, 19, near Clear Lake Drive. Sowards was booked into the Parker County Jail and charged with Accident Involving Damage to Vehicle over $200. The county vehicle sustained minor damage to the rear of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle sustained damage to the front. The passenger was detained for questioning and later released.
