TROPHY CLUB -- About 300 people came to Byron Nelson High School on Thursday night for a last chance to comment before the Town Council vote on a mixed-use development proposed for 26 acres at Trophy Club's main entrance.

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously in December to deny developer Scott Beck's rezoning request for PD-30, which would include apartments, high-end restaurants, shops, theaters and a hotel.

Because of the commission's rejection, approval by the council would require a supermajority -- or five of the six council members -- to vote in favor. All six members were present Thursday night.

During a public hearing that lasted three hours, 39 residents spoke; each was allowed three minutes. Twenty-six opposed PD-30, and 13 spoke in favor of the development.

The council had not voted by 11 p.m.

Danny Meyer, treasurer of the Residents United for Trophy Club Political Action Committee, said the group has collected 2,150 signatures opposing the development.

"The vote you cast tonight will define your worthiness of those you represent," Meyer said. "We are not going away. Do the right thing."
