Herbstreit Classic games leaving Metroplex

A

Officials with Chicago-based Intersport Inc., which runs the Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic series of high school football games, confirmed Thursday that there are no plans to host the annual Labor Day games at Cowboys Stadium this year.

The event began in Ohio in 2005 and expanded to Texas in 2008, when it was held at Texas Stadium in Irving.

It moved to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington in 2009 and has featured teams from Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Georgia, Ohio, California, Florida and Utah competing against area teams Euless Trinity, Mansfield Timberview, Mansfield Summit, Colleyville Heritage, Arlington Bowie, Justin Northwest, Denton Guyer, DeSoto, Irving MacArthur and a few Houston-area schools.
