About 32 flights at DFW Airport were cancelled during the worst of the rains Wednesday morning and others were delayed by lightning, said David Magana, the airport's public affairs manager.
That may change depending on how persistent the weather is, he said. Some inbound flights were diverted, but I dont have a number on that.Magana said that the National Weather Service has told airport operations that the storms will taper off after 11 a.m. or so.He credited D/FWs Irregular Operations Plan for keeping flights on schedule. In situations like this, we have a regional plan for other airports to receive our diverted flights, he said. Theyll try to service them as they can on the ground in places like Abilene and Tulsa, then send them on their way.Magana said its up to the airlines to get passengers where they want to go.As always, folks should call ahead to their airlines before they get to the airport, and be prepared for changes in flights and travel plans, he said. We try to keep everyone informed and touch base with regional partners in the Southwest so that everyones prepared and ready.Magana said D/FW operations professionals have been doing this for a while as part of our irregular operations. When they talk about tarmac delays and those kind of things, D/FW has been held up as a model for other airports because of our system.Have more to add? News tip? Tell us
