All three local girls soccer programs took part in the 2012 National Elite Prep Showcase on Jan. 12-14, and each of them can draw some positives from the event and their subsequent non-district seasons. Here is a rundown of what transpired.

Grapevine (3-2-2)

The Lady Mustangs started the tournament slow, as they lost to St. Thomas Aquinas 1-0 and followed that up with a 5-2 loss to Kingwood, but they definitely bounced back with two ties. The first tie, a 2-2 affair against McKinney Boyd, stands out, because Boyd entered the tournament ranked as the number one overall team in national rankings.

For the most part, Boyd played like it in the showcase, as they rolled to wins in each of their other three games. Tori Bowman and Brooke Ramsey scored for the Mustangs. Grapevine also tied Coppell, who they stunned in last year's state tournament in the very same Dragons Stadium in Southlake, 0-0.

From there, Grapevine ran the table at the Midland ISD Presidents Cup, and they began their district slate on Tuesday when they played Irving.

Southlake Carroll (8-0-0)

The Lady Dragons could easily lay claim to the most productive weekend of any team in the invitational. They scored 16 goals during the course of the four games, with the most lopsided scoreline being a 12-0 win against Austin Palo Duro. They are still shooting up the national rankings after comfortably winning the Colleyville Heritage Tournament, beating the hosts 3-0, and following that up with a 2-0 win against Keller.

They have a ludicrous 28-0 scoring difference. Sonja Loy and Victoria Stephens are splitting the duties at goalie, and they've done a good job in combining for eight clean sheets.

Colleyville Heritage (0-4-2)

Heritage coach Misail Tsapos hinted that where his team finished the season was more important than winning early season games, but this is not what Tsapos had planned. The Lady Panthers, who went to the state final last year and began this season as the No. 4 team in the country, hadn't won a game as of the press deadline, tying against Georgetown and Allen in the invitational and losing four.

The Lady Panthers appear to really miss keeper Jackie Kerestine, one of the best in the state last year. Colleyville Heritage has surrendered 16 goals in those six games.

District began on Tuesday against Irving Nimitz.
