Southlake Carroll at Coppell, 6 p.m. Friday

Where: Coppell High School

Record: Carroll (24-3, 8-1 before Tuesday)

Analysis: The Lady Dragons proved to be human after all in District 7-5A play when they fell at home to Keller last Friday, 42-41. They couldn't overcome a 31-27 deficit going into the fourth quarter.

Before the week began with a home game against Justin Northwest, the Lady Dragons were in a first-place tie with the Lady Indians. So this could be a situation where each team could hold serve for the final five games of the season and end in a two-way tie for first.

In the initial meeting against rival Coppell on Jan. 3 at Carroll, the Lady Dragons were never threatened and won easily, 58-24.

Coppell is really struggling this season and will miss the playoffs. The Cowgirls were 2-7 in district play when the week began. Carroll will still continue to need solid play from its top players such as Sierra Maykus and Caitlin Barrett.

Grapevine vs. Haltom, 6:30 p.m., Friday

Where: Grapevine High School

Record: Grapevine (13-14, 5-7)

Analysis: This is likely the beginning to the Lady Mustangs playing out the rest of the season. After a 45-30 home loss to Colleyville Heritage, Grapevine was pretty much on the outside looking in at the playoff reace.

Grapevine trailed fourth-place Richland (8-4) by three with four games remaining in the season. And both the Lady Mustangs and Lady Rebels have not gone through their second bye in this nine-team district.

Plus, Grapevine loses the head-to-head tiebreaker with Richland because it lost both meetings. Nonetheless, it's been a pretty decent season for Steve Ganninger's team because it basically turned over the entire roster and watched two freshmen in Mandi Routon and Nicole Taake emerge and earn more playing time as the season has gone on.

What Ganninger would like to do is try and finish with at least a .500 record. After playing Hurst L.D. Bell on Tuesday and Haltom, Grapevine finishes with Irving Nimitz and Euless Trinity.
