The Keller Varsity Silver hockey team broke open a close contest with Mansfield in cruising to a 9-3 win last week. The win sets up a long-awaited rematch against Southlake this Thursday, a team which has been tied with Keller since early in the season. The winner will sit alone atop the Varsity Silver South division.
Keller won the first game of the season versus Southlake, 4-0, back on Sept. 29. Next week, Keller will have a chance to avenge one of their two losses when they play Midlothian.In the Mansfield game, Keller's Nate Sepeda scored the first of his two goals in the first period, answering the goal by former Keller player Bobby Baumeister. Keller would go on to score four straight goals in the second period to seal the game before scoring another four goals in the third period.Dalton Skelly ended up with four assists on the night for Keller. Others scoring goals for Keller were Andrew Hoefer, Tanner Bryant, Sterling Smith, Price Hernandez, Foster Scott, Gary Lassan and Ryan Scott.Tippit finishes reigning horse campaignSamantha Tippit, a Keller resident, finished third overall in year-end points in the Rookie II class and second overall in the Heart of Texas Reining Horse Association. She also finished 10th overall in the Texas Reining Horse Association.Bobcats wrestlers have first Senior NightByron Nelson's wrestling squad observed the school's first Senior Night by beating Argyle at the Bobcats' gym last Thursday night. The dual stayed close most of the night before the Bobcats pulled away in the final four bouts of the night to win 46-28.The seniors honored prior to the dual included Kwame Asbill, Tyler Boque, Joe Egbers, Michael Hernandez and Zackary Smith.Egbers was involved in the biggest matchup of the night at 152, going against the region's top-rated Ben Hammer. The hard-fought match was won by Hammer in a 5-3 decision.Nelson was wrestling at the Titan Invitational last weekend in Frisco before winding up with tough dual meets at Lake Highlands and Flower Mound, before heading to the district tournament.NISD divers do well at Grapevine meetThe Northwest and Byron Nelson diving team had some of the top finishers at the Grapevine diving competition held earlier this month.From Northwest, Brandon Jackson finished second and Tristan Chavez was 15th, as the Texans finished second overall in the team scoring, said head coach Kimberly Williamson.Nelson's Nikki Worley and Darion Johnson placed 11th and 18th, respectively. For the Bobcats' boys, Stephen Gilliland and Daniel Sampognaro were 10th and 16th, respectively.Worley and Gilliland both set new school record scores from last year, said Bobcats coach Steve Melbourn.The district diving and swimming meets are this weekend, with the 6-4A meet at Denton, while the 7-5A meet is being hosted at the Keller ISD Natatorium.Have more to add?
