Officials with the Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Carroll school districts said Friday they have joined forces to schedule some of the Lone Star states best football programs against Oklahomas elite for eight games over the next two seasons.
The yet-to-be-named slate of games consists of Southlake Carroll, Euless Trinity, Hurst L.D. Bell, DeSoto, Tulsa (Okla.) Union, Jenks (Okla.), Midland and Midland Lee.
HEB athletic director Mike Fielder and Euless Trinity coach Steve Lineweaver confirmed plans for the series, but schools cannot formally schedule contracts until after UIL realignment on Feb. 2.
I will say its as solid as solid can be without the contracts, Lineweaver said.
Plans for Sept. 7, 2012 have defending Class 5A Division I state champ Carroll hosting Midland at Dragon Stadium, while Bell will host Midland Lee at Pennington Field. Carroll and Bell switch West Texas opponents in 2013.
On Sept. 8 at Pennington, DeSoto takes on Jenks, a 12-time Oklahoma 6A state champion, and Trinity will host four-time defending 6A champ Tulsa Union. Trinity and DeSoto switch Oklahoma opponents in 2013 and play at Dragon Stadium.
Jenks and Union were willing to move their annual non-district meeting up one week in order to accommodate the Texas trip.
It came together in just a few weeks once some other obstacles were overcome, Fielder said. There has been dialogue for a couple of years.
"Carrolls AD Kevin Ozee has been heavily involved in this thing and hes a big reason we are able to do this. HEB and Carroll have together, kind of partnered in this and we feel like we have eight schools that folks ought to come out and watch.
