The postseason accolades have been rolling in for the state champion Carroll Dragons football team, led by junior quarterback Kenny Hill, senior defensive back/wide receiver Sabian Holmes and senior linebacker Will Davis.
Hill, the District 7-5A offensive MVP, was an honorable mention selection on Sports Illustrated's High School All-American team and a second-teamer on the Fox Sports Next All-State team and was also named TheOldCoach.com's DFW 5A All-Area MVP and the Dallas Morning News' All-Area Offensive MVP. Holmes, the district MVP, was also a second-team Associated Press All-State choice; a first-team defensive back on the Fox Sports Next All-State team; a first-team wide receiver on TheOldCoach.com's 5A All-Area team; and a second-team wide receiver on the Dallas Morning News' All-Area team. Davis, a first-team all-district linebacker, was a first-teamer on the Fox Sports Next All-State team, TheOldCoach.come All-Area 5A team and the Dallas Morning News All-Area team.Sophomore kicker Drew Brown was the 7-5A Special Teams Player of the Year and a second-teamer on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Super Team, while senior wide receiver Peyton Williams was a first-team all-district pick and a second teamer on the Dallas Morning News All-Area team.Other first-team all-district players were Austin Tyrone, Avery Hill, J.J. Prince, Jeff Miller, Jeremy McClellan and Tanner Jacobson. Second-team picks were Ben Sego, Alec Deutsch, Cam Manning, Matt Watford, Dillon Rake, Nash Neu and Nick Melocik. Honorable mention selections were Corey Kemp, Tyler Barnes, Steven Bergmark, Ty Cummings, Nash Dickey and Matt Swoyer.Hal Wasson was also voted the 7-5A Coach of the Year.Southlake Silver dominates GarlandSouthake Silver scored four third-period goals, including two by Connor Morrow, to pull away from Garland for a 7-2 hockey victory Thursday. Morrow finished with three goals while Jeffrey Rucci had two goals and an assist and Griffin McManus had one goal and one assist. Aaron Driggs also contributed a goal for Southlake (12-1), which also got two assists from Chris McNamara and one from Colin Whitt.Covenant soccer earns two shutoutsColleyville Covenant Christian posted two shutouts in three days to run its record to 9-4-2 overall and 3-0 in district play in its inaugural soccer season. The Cougars, led by goalkeeper Garrett Krebs, blanked Dallas Westwood 7-0 on Jan. 5 and defeated Lutheran 4-0 on Jan. 7.Jacob Garcia had one goal and two assists against Westwood, while Brandon Ritchie had one goal and one assist.Dragons swimmers sweep competitionCarroll's boys and girls teams both went 7-0 at the Duel in the Pool in Katy on Jan. 7, and one of the girls' dual meet wins came against defending state champion Kingwood.Top individual performers included Emily Zapinski, who won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events; Lindsay Schultz, who was first in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle; John Remetta, who was first in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 breaststroke; Lyndsie Gibson, who was first in the 100 backstroke and third in the 500 freestyle; and Jonathan Roberts, who was first in the 500 freestyle and fifth in the 200 IM.Both 400 freestyle relay teams finished first, along with the boys 200 freestyle relay and the girls 200 medley relay.The Dragons will compete in the first Battle of 1709 against all four Keller ISD teams Thursday at the Carroll Aquatics Center.Have more to add?
