Carroll's girls basketball team has done a nice job of handling the rest of the District 7-5A competition.
The Lady Dragons (22-2) were 6-0 going into last Friday's game at Denton Guyer. That game marked the end of the first half of the district campaign. At the time, Carroll led the district by only one game over the Lady Wildcats and over Keller. However, there has been a difference. The 44-30 victory at fourth-place Saginaw marked the closest game Carroll had played. During this week, the Lady Dragons began the second half at Keller Fossil Ridge on Tuesday and play at home Friday against the Lady Indians.Carroll devoured Fossil Ridge, 56-18, in the first meeting back in December. They then won at Keller, 44-28, also in the first meeting. However, that game was tighter than the score revealed. A strong third quarter by the Lady Indians narrowed Carroll's lead to 32-24 going into the fourth quarter. However, Carroll managed to pull away. The Lady Dragons know they are without Janelle Jenkins for the season with an injury. So they are going to have to keep relying on their go-to players in Caitlin Barrett, Sierra Maykus, Kami Mickens and Kayla Reinhart. The big picture for Carroll is that it needs to keep playing at a steady pace. Coach Terri Morrison wants to always run but knows she has a team that is capable of playing at any tempo.Have more to add? News tip? Tell us
