Former Weatherford College baseball player German Duran has a chance to head back to the big leagues.

The Miami Marlins have purchased Duran's contract from the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Duran played in the Mexican Baseball League in 2011 before joining Grand Prairie for 12 games, hitting .536 in the playoffs and helping the squad to the American Association championship.

He will head to Marlins spring training in Jupiter, Fla., in February.

Duran became the first former WC player to play in the major leagues, starting for many games at shortstop for the Texas Rangers in 2008. He played 60 games for the Rangers, hitting .231 with three home runs and 16 RBI over 143 at-bats.

He was then picked up by the Houston Astros, playing for their Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock before being waived.

Duran played for Weatherford College in 2005, setting a school record with 13 home runs and batting .357. He was an All-Conference selection at shortstop for the Coyotes.

A graduate of Fort Worth Paschal, Duran played at TCU before transferring to WC.
