FORT WORTH -- A man fatally shot last week had entered the wrong home, police said Tuesday.

James Robert Green III, 29, was trying to go to a friend's house in the west-side neighborhood, police said. A woman fatally shot him early Thursday in the 6700 block of Fortune Road.

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office ruled that Green died from a gunshot that hit his right arm, chest and abdomen and that his death was a homicide. Officials are awaiting toxicology tests, which should take four to six weeks.

The woman was not arrested and no charges were filed, police said Tuesday.

She shot Green shortly before 3:30 a.m. after calling 911.

In the call, the woman told police that she was alone in the home and that she had been awakened by her doorbell.

Before officers arrived, the man entered through a door and she shot him, police said.

The man was found inside and was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital.

The woman's family had recently bought the residence.

Green, a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, was a graduate of Fort Worth Country Day School and Southern Methodist University. His graveside service was Monday.
