DALLAS -- Felix Jones is eager to get back on the field, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that's the plan this week.

But the running back is content to take his time.

At least that's what he told everybody who asked him Tuesday at the Salvation Army's Carr P. Collins Social Services Center, where he and 11 other Cowboys players served Thanksgiving dinners to the clients of the homeless shelter.

They asked him when he was going to play again, and he said he told them: "I'm going to let my body keep healing and get to the point where I feel like I'm comfortable out there.... Look forward to me being out there very soon. And tune in."

Anybody tuned in to Jerry Jones' radio show Tuesday morning heard him acknowledge that DeMarco Murray will get the bulk of the action even when Felix Jones returns. Murray has rushed for a Cowboys four-game record 601 yards in the four weeks that Felix Jones has missed with an ankle injury.

"I don't know just exactly how on top of his game he'll be, but man, am I anxious to have both of those options out there," Jerry Jones said on KRLD/107.5 FM. "...That will be exciting."

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday there is no specific plan for Jones when he returns.

"Really, it's just about me getting back on the field," Jones said. "That's the first thing. Once that happens, we'll start talking about what's going on on the field."

Jerry Jones said he pictures Murray as the main ball carrier and Felix coming in to break big plays.

"Murray looks like the more he carries, the more effective he gets," Jones said. "Felix, and this is not negative in any way, Felix has always been a guy that he looks like the best way for him to be his best is to inject him in spots."

But first, Felix Jones wants to get back on the field with a sound ankle.

"I just want to be out there to perform at the level I know I can do good at and not be worried about the ankle and how it feels," he said. "I don't need to rush it."

The Cowboys released punter Chris Jones and re-signed guard Daniel Loper. Loper will wear number 70.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Cowboys' first Super Bowl-winning season, Jaime Aron has written the book Breakthrough 'Boys, which documents the 1971 season and Super Bowl VI victory over Miami. List price is $25, and it is available at bookstores and online booksellers. The Cowboys host the Dolphins on Thanksgiving Day.

Running back DeMarco Murray is a finalist for the Pepsi NFL rookie of the week.

Quarterback Tony Romo is a finalist for the FedEx Air NFL player of the week.
