FORT WORTH -- Mother Nature is about to turn down the temperature.

A cold front was scheduled to arrive after 7 p.m. Monday, bringing with it gusty winds, plunging temperatures and a chance of thunderstorms.

Temperatures will fall throughout the night until reaching 50 degrees around 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Tuesday afternoon temperatures should reach the upper 60s, but it will feel colder because of north winds at 15 to 20 mph. Some areas could see winds of 30 to 40 mph.

Wednesday morning's forecast low is in the mid-40s, and Dallas-Fort Worth residents could awaken to temperatures in the lower 40s Thursday morning. Temperatures in outlying areas could fall into the upper 30s.

Monday's high was 88 degrees at 5 p.m. at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

"These are warmer temperatures for this time of year," said Jennifer Dunn, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth. "But by Monday evening, we'll have one of the strongest cold fronts this season."

Forecasters say that the cold front will bring a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain to areas north and northeast of DFW.

Most residents won't get rain, but everyone will likely need a jacket by Tuesday.

Forecasters say the low Wednesday morning should be in the upper 40s, with daytime highs in the mid-60s.

Thursday's forecast high is around 70.

Forecasters say it will start to warm up a little by the end of the week.
