Fort Worth teacher investigated in alleged relationship with student at Haltom High
HALTOM CITY -- Haltom City police are investigating a report that a female teacher had an inappropriate relationship with a student when she worked at Haltom High School.
The science teacher resigned from the Birdville school district at the end of the school year and now works for the Fort Worth school district, where she was placed on administrative leave after the student's parents contacted Fort Worth officials, said Clint Bond, a Fort Worth district spokesman.
Officials from both school districts are working with detectives on the investigation. Birdville officials notified the State Board for Educator Certification, whose professional discipline unit is reviewing the teacher as well.
"We had a call from a concerned parent this summer. That's when we turned it over to the Police Department for investigation," said Mark Thomas, Birdville school district spokesman.
Police, who were notified of the allegation Sept. 23, declined to identify the teacher or the student. No arrests have been made.
"Detectives are trying to identify any and all victims that may be involved," Haltom City police Cpl. Joe Hackfield said in a news release Wednesday.
The student has graduated from high school, Thomas said.
In a resignation letter, the teacher said she was leaving because of family circumstances and because she was dissatisfied, Thomas said.
"It didn't clarify what 'dissatisfied' meant," Thomas said.
In another case, North Richland Hills police continue to investigate an allegation that surfaced in the spring of a relationship between a Richland High School teacher and a student.
That teacher has resigned, Thomas said.
A state law passed this year requires a school district to complete an investigation of an educator if there is reasonable cause to believe that he or she engaged in certain misconduct, including improper relations with a student, even if the educator resigns before the investigation is completed.
