FORT WORTH -- A former Dalworthington Gardens police sergeant has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman he had arrested and helped get released from jail while he was with the department.
Bobby L. Beasley, 51, resigned from the Dalworthington Gardens Department of Public Safety during an ongoing internal investigation into the allegations, which arose in April but stemmed from a December encounter with a Fort Worth woman he had arrested on outstanding warrants. The woman told investigators that she did not immediately report the assault because her grandmother and aunt had told her that no one would believe her because she is black and Beasley is white, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.Beasley was arrested on a sexual-assault warrant Tuesday at his Dalworthington Gardens home by members of a U.S. marshal's task force, said Sgt. Pedro Criado, a Fort Worth police spokesman. He was later released from jail after posting $20,000 bail.A woman who answered the phone at Beasley's home referred questions to his attorney, Terri Moore, who was at a conference Friday and could not be reached for comment.According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Beasley, wearing civilian clothing but with his badge and gun in plain view, drove to the accuser's house in Fort Worth on Dec. 14 and arrested her on warrants out of Dalworthington Gardens.A Dalworthington Gardens DPS spokesman said the warrants stemmed from traffic tickets. The woman called her grandmother to pick up her children before going with Beasley, the affidavit states. The affidavit states that while taking the woman to Dalworthington Gardens, Beasley told her that he would speak to the judge on her behalf since she was a single parent and indigent. Once at the municipal courthouse, Beasley did talk to the judge, and the woman was released on a personal-recognizance bond.Beasley then told the woman that he would drive her home, the affidavit states. On the way, Beasley discussed his ability to follow through with the judge on allowing the woman to be released or have a lighter punishment. He also began talking about his personal life and how he liked black women, which made the woman uncomfortable, the affidavit states. While traveling on Interstate 35W in Fort Worth, Beasley is accused of putting his hand on the woman's thigh, then inside her pants before touching her inappropriately."The victim stated that he did not say anything and she did not say anything to him out of fear," the affidavit states.Knowing that nobody would be at her house, the woman asked Beasley to take her to her grandmother's home.Once he dropped her off, the woman told investigators, Beasley remained parked in her grandmother's driveway for at least 30 minutes. The woman told her grandmother and aunt what had happened, but, because of their remarks that no one would believe her, she waited until April 7 to report it to a clerk at the Dalworthington Gardens Municipal Court.Dalworthington Gardens began an internal investigation and alerted Fort Worth police. In a statement released Friday to the Star-Telegram, Dalworthington Gardens said Beasley had been a member of the department for the last three years and was assigned to the warrant division.Deanna Boyd, 817-390-7655Have more to add?
