KELLER -- Aledo had two weeks to simmer and reflect on its loss to Lake Travis.

That memory of dropping to 1-2 did not sit well with the Bearcats, as they unleashed state-record-setting Johnathan Gray and an unrelenting offensive assault on Keller Timber Creek, topping the Falcons 62-17 in a District 5-4A opener Thursday at Keller ISD Athletic Complex.

The Bearcats (2-2) wasted no time letting loose Gray, who broke off a 69-yard touchdown run on the Bearcats' third play from scrimmage, the first of his five touchdowns.

Timber Creek (2-2) countered on its first possession with a field goal but Aledo took control from there.

Gray surpassed Sugar Land's Kenneth Hall as Texas' all-time leading scorer with his second touchdown, a 15-yard scamper that gave Aledo a 21-3 advantage.

Hall had 899 points from 1950-1953 and Gray currently sits at 920.

Gray is fifth all time nationally in scoring after surpassing Hall and is just four points from overtaking the fourth spot.

Gray added a scoring run of 35 yards and a 48-yard receiving touchdown before halftime.

He scored from 54 yards out on Aledo's first offensive play, and his last, in the second half and finished with 209 yards and four scores on the ground on just eight carries and added 61 yards and a touchdown receiving. He is averaging 256 rushing yards and 4.5 touchdowns per game this season.

Quarterback Matthew Bishop was extremely efficient for the Bearcats, going 15 of 19 for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

"We had a bad taste in our mouth and we're trying to get rid of it and that helped," Aledo coach Tim Buchanan said. "But it is going to take a long time for us to get that out of our system."
