Centennial finds reason to celebrate on field

A

BURLESON -- Lightning delayed and eventually postponed Burleson Centennial's Up and Coming celebration, but the Spartans didn't let that bother them as they downed Bastrop Cedar Creek 35-0 at Burleson Stadium Friday night.

Up and Coming is Centennial's version of the traditional Homecoming celebration. Centennial is only in its second year and first season of varsity football. Cedar Creek is playing its second season of football.

With the teams playing 10-minute quarters by agreement of both coaches, after an hour and a half rain delay, the Spartans (3-1) gained a quick lead.

Centennial sophomore running back DeMarcus Williams found the end zone on each of the Spartans first two drives. Williams finished with 208 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries.

In the second quarter, quarterback Tanner Hodges hit Curtis Amos for a five-yard score that completed a nine-play, 73-yard drive. During the drive, Hodges ran for 14 yards and threw for 15 yards. Williams broke off runs of 13 and 18 yards.
