A bye week was on the books for many area teams Friday night.

The teams that did play probably wished they also had taken the week off.

Swift-moving storms Friday night had a hand in delaying, canceling or rescheduling all 31 games involving area teams.

Most games started 60 to 90 minutes after their usual 7:30 p.m. start times. Others started and stopped more than once.

The Colleyville Heritage-Grapevine game did not kick off until 9:43 p.m.

No way Midway

Everman had a rough start throwing the football and fell behind 20-0 against Waco Midway in a nondistrict clash at J.E. Marr Stadium.

Forty-five minutes after kickoff, the game was halted because of lightning storms and the game was called a few minutes later with 8:55 left in the second quarter.

The game does not count and will not be rescheduled, officials said. Midway is 2-1on the season and Everman 1-1.

Everman suffered three interceptions in six attempts before the game was called.

Midway linebacker Wesley Abercrombie picked off the first pass of the game and returned it for a touchdown. Officially, it keeps Everman's 23-game home win streak intact.

The Bulldogs' last home loss was to Wichita Falls in Week 1 of 2006.

Still a full slate

At Nolan Catholic, the Vikings (3-0) can still get a full season of games because they had originally scheduled an 11-game season.

Friday's nondistrict game with Pilot Point never was able to begin, and school officials canceled it at 8:45 p.m.

The teams were forced off the field at Doskocil Stadium before 7 p.m. and never returned.
