On September 11, 2001, I was at home when my brother in Los Angeles called me and told me to turn on the TV. At first, I wasn't sure what I was seeing. Was that a plane hitting the World Trade Center? I started gathering my things to head to work. My husband asked: "Why are you going to work? Your shift doesn't start until the afternoon." I said: "You don't understand. This is big. They're going to need everyone they can to report the news." In this blog, I usually provide fun, free events for families. This week, I'd like to remember all the children who lost parents and parents who lost children on September 11. There are a number of remembrance ceremonies this weekend, so I compiled five that I think would be appropriate for families to attend:

Grapevine Remembrance Day Ceremony: The ceremony will take place at a 9/11 sculpture, titled "Valor Commitment Dedication." After the ceremony, Boy Scouts from the area and from out of state will take up posts in 30-minute intervals around the memorial to stand guard for the rest of the day.
Good to know: At 7:30 p.m., a second Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at the 9/11 sculpture featuring speakers from airline associated groups and Grapevine's police and fire departments.
When: 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sunday, September 11
Where: 911 Memorial Site, 1000 Texan Trail and Northwest Highway, Grapevine

Arlington 9/11 Ceremony: The event will include a bell ceremony and rifle volley, a proclamation by Mayor Robert Cluck and remarks by police and fire officials.
When: 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Sunday, September 11
Where: Heroes' Park, 2100 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX 76013

9/11 Tribute Exhibit: The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will host a 10th anniversary 9/11 tribute to honor the enduring American spirit in a free community event and open a new exhibit, titled 9/11 Tribute, featuring the largest artifact in Texas from the World Trade Center, the full-façade panel that once supported the three floors (101-103) located two stories above the center of the impact zone of the North Tower.
Good to know: The public is encouraged to come early and will be invited to view the beam in the Museum's atrium following the tribute. Limited free parking will be available from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the south lot at the northeast corner of Harley Street and Montgomery Street (entrance on Harley Street directly south of the Museum). Free parking will also be available in the University of North Texas Health Science Center parking garage on Camp Bowie.
When: 8:45 a.m., Sunday, September 11
Where: 1600 Gendy St., Fort Worth, TX 76107

Muslims For Life Blood Drive: The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA is launching a "Muslims for Life" campaign that includes holding blood drives. At 10 a.m., there will be a 9/11 memorial service honoring the victims of 9/11 and firefighters. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., a blood drive will be held in the Mosque.
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, September 11
